The New Voices Festival

is a celebration of the music and culture of new communities. It recognises the contribution of the diverse migrant communities of East London, incorporating a range of stalls, activities and live performances for the whole family to enjoy. There are also workshops and information tents exploring key issues around migration. The event is hosted by Praxis Community Projects, an East London Charity offering support and advice to migrants and refugees. On Saturday 13th July Praxis will be holding their sixth annual New Voices Festival from 12-7pm.

The free event features an exciting programme of live music and dance from around the world, from jazz and Latin to folk and brass. Confirmed artists for this year’s festival include DJ Cal Jader (as seen at Glastonbury, The Big Chill and Bestival), Los Chinches (who have taken the UK Latin scene by storm) , The Fontanelles (whose recent performance at the national theatre received rave reviews from the press), the Jaipur Kawa Brass Band and the London Lucumi Choir. This plus a designated children’s area with games activities and crafts as well as a range of stalls and refreshments make this festival a fantastic day out for the whole family.

Last year’s event was a great success with 9000 visitors over the course of the day and we are hoping for even more this year! The festival is a platform to recognise and celebrate the diverse migrant communities and the organisations who work with them and we hope you will all join us in the celebration!
