+ Q&A with Mamoun Hassan
A documentary that delves into the everyday situations facing refugees.
Directed by Mamoun Hassan
We are pleased to welcome filmmaker Koutaiba Al-Janabi to appear on a panel after the screening. We will also feature some of his work from the Palestinian Camps in Lebanon, 1978-1982.
In 1974 the Head of BFI Production, Mamoun Hassan, left to pursue his filmmaking career and arrived in Beirut to take up an appointment as Head of Film Branch with the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA). His brief was to document services such as housing, education and health that the UNRWA offered the Palestinian refugees. The Lebanese civil war started soon after his arrival in Beirut and over the following 18 months of turmoil he directed and edited the documentary Some of the Palestinians, which was completed in 1976.
